Species: Dragon Canon: Spyro the Dragon Canon Point: After the events of Year of the Dragon Character Info: There’s a wiki but it’s kind of shit so I’ll summarize: Spyro’s story started ONCE UPON A TIME in a place called the Dragon Realms. A Real Bad Dude called Gnasty Gnorc got pissed because his dragon neighbors wouldn’t stop throwing shade on him. Gnasty cast a spell that trapped all of the dragons in crystal, and turned all of their treasure into Gnorc monsters that would serve as his minions. Spyro was the only dragon who escaped being hit with the crystal spell, because he was so small that the spell LITERALLY flew right over his head. Spyro then went on an incredible journey throughout the five Dragon Worlds, freeing all the old geezers from their crystal prisons and eventually taking Gnasty out himself. Some time after that, Spyro decided he wanted a vacation and hopped a portal (a standard method of transportation in his world) to go to a place known as Dragon Shores for some relaxation. Instead he found himself cleaning up after other people’s messes once more, when a kooky professor and his furry pals used some science/magic bullshit to pull the dragon from his own universe into an alternate magical world called Avalar. Turns out that they were deliberately trying to shanghai a dragon into their world to fight an asshole sorcerer named Ripto for them, but instead of the full sized ball of claws and fury they were hoping for, they wound up with shrimpy little Spyro instead. Reluctantly, Spyro traversed the worlds of Avalar to gather enough TALISMANS and ORBS OF POWER in order to take down Ripto and get on with his vacation. And again, some time after THAT, Spyro was thrust into the role of the hero once more when a bunch of thieves snuck into the Dragon Realms and stole the newest batch of dragon eggs. Spyro and his pal Hunter followed the thieves through a hole to the other side of the world and found themselves in the FORGOTTEN REALMS, a place where dragons apparently USED to live but left behind because a giant lizard queen called The Sorceress chased them all out. The very same Sorceress turned out to be responsible for the egg theft, so Spyro once again travelled the worlds of the Forgotten Realms, rescuing all the baby dragons and eventually shoving the Sorceress into a pit of lava. Twice. Personality: You know how there was a period in late 90’s/early aughts action/adventure games where you could swear that all of the game developers got together and came to the agreement that every protagonist of every game in the genre was required to be an obnoxious, wisecracking young male with a cocksure attitude and a penchant for one-liners? Spyro is a product of that era. Arrogant and loud mouthed, Spyro is a very young dragon with a strong (if simplistic) set of priorities. He’s a guy who just wants to relax and have fun, and marches to the beat of his own drum. Rules and responsibilities make him twitchy, and he hates being tied down with trifling things like SCHOOL and CHORES. He especially hates being lectured, and has absolutely no tolerance for the prattlings of his elders. Any older dragon that tries to talk his ear off about the Good Old Days will usually wind up getting interrupted, or find themselves on the receiving end of a sarcastic comment. Generally though, Spyro is a pretty low-stress, go-with-the-flow kind of guy who’s used to taking on catastrophes and danger with a shrug of the shoulders. The only thing that really gets under his scales is when anyone tries to mess with his friends; he’s exceedingly loyal, and doesn’t take kindly to bullies. Hero work is the kind of responsibility that he’s actually alright with, and he’s almost always up for a bit of adventure, even when he isn’t actively looking for it. We see this in the second game intro: He takes his accidental kidnapping into Avalar surprisingly well, considering he gets yanked out of his attempt at a vacation only to be handed a dangerous quest by a bunch of complete strangers. He’s pragmatic about the whole ordeal, and quickly accepts that helping the residents of Avalar is the only way that he’s going to be able to move on with his life anyway. Of course, it helps that he enjoys being the hero. Spyro’s got celebrity swagger, and he loves to brag and strut his stuff when the cameras are on him. Considering all this, he’s likely to take to the carnival like a duck to water. Abilities: DISCLAIMER I GUESS? I plan on playing a lot of Spyro’s abilities as VERY literal to how they work in his games, which kind of has the result of him functioning a lot like, say, the Toons in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I’m fully open to tweaking these on an as needed basis so as not to be unfair or break the game, and as a general rule, the Ringmaster would be able to nullify any of his powers. -Fire Breath: Pretty much what it says on the tin. Because he isn’t fully grown yet, Spyro’s flame is produced as short, powerful bursts rather than long sustained gouts. These flame bursts are surprisingly destructive, and can be used to shatter pottery and wood structures into a million crispy little pieces. -Spyro’s flame breath can also become frost breath if it is manipulated by the right magical forces. -A sweet kiss on the nose will cause Spyro’s internal temperature to rise dramatically for a brief period of time, increasing the intensity of his flame to the point where he can use it to destroy solid metal. -Speed/Stamina: Spyro can sustain a charge at top speed for a seemingly infinite length of time. -Gliding/Flight: Because Spyro is a young dragon, on his own he is not capable of full-fledged flight just yet. However, he is able to glide reasonable distances, and full fight can sometimes be achieved if the proper environmental conditions are met. -Semi-invulnerability: Thanks to the protection of Sparx the dragonfly, Spyro can take impressive amounts of damage (both physical and magical) relatively unscathed. Sparx can absorb a significant amount of damage before passing out, but once he's incapacitated, it leaves Spyro open to taking damage. -Agility: He's really good at dodging and barrel rolling out of the way of danger. CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: Purple. (with an orange core, if that’s allowed. The purple/orange combo is kind of a big thematic deal for him, and dragons are pretty significantly Important and Magical where he’s from). Ideal Jobs: Bouncer, Patrol, Daredevil Relevant Experience: Getting into scrapes and scuffles is what Spyro’s good at. He talks a pretty big game AND can deliver on it, being surprisingly strong for his small size. Back home, he takes on enemies ten times his size on a regular basis and comes out on top. He is also DARING, RECKLESS and HEROIC and has little sense of self-preservation. Reason for Joining: So, where he comes from? It is perfectly acceptable to smash pottery and baskets and the like in order to gather up the many precious gemstones that are littered around his world. How was he supposed to know that this world was any different from the hundreds of others that he’s visited!? Bottom line is, he has a lot of property damage to pay off now.
